Proposal in Big Bear Lake

Nick contacted me about popping the question to his girlfriend of six years. He joked right off the bat that it had taken him a while, but he knew she was the one. According to Nick, no one else is more perfect for him than her. So, it was time for a proposal in Big Bear Lake!
He wanted to make this a special moment that she would never forget. One where she could “ugly cry” as much as she wanted. Nick had held onto the ring for months, planning for the right moment. From there, I sent him different location ideas based on what he was looking for. Finally, we came to the perfect conclusion of a hike where a stunning natural boulder collection rests above the valley, showing off what the Big Bear Valley truly has to offer in beauty and serenity.
Big Bear Lake is my favorite place to photograph, not because I’ve grown up in town but because of the gorgeous views you get from every spot.
When they climbed up on the rock, Nick said he was worried she would be able to get up there. Lona laughed and said she didn’t know if she could either. Fortunately, Lona was a trooper and was able to experience being proposed to overlooking the Big Bear Valley.
Two kids were playing in the area when he wanted to propose, making him wait until their father called them over, but he said it made the surprise more real. My husband and I were cuddling up on a log nearby, hiding my camera between us. Lona thought we were another couple, enjoying the hiking trail! Finally, on that sunny and breezy mountain day, Nick got on one knee and asked the most important question of his lifetime. Lona, of course, said yes and cried happy tears.
After the proposal in Big Bear Lake was finished and the photo gallery emailed over, Lona sent me a message saying, “I’m blown away by the incredible job you’ve done. We’re not naturals in front of the camera and yet I feel so beautiful in these!! Thank you for helping me relive the weekend I could cry all over again.” It made my week!
